If you can get an email address from your college, do so and make it your primary email address on your PayPal account.  

I have advised sponsors that this is the easiest way to verify that a student is for real.

If you can't get one, you'll just have to work a little harder to sell yourself.  I don't have one, so you're in good company (grin).

Whether you have a college email address or not, you will want to sell yourself to the sponsors who will visit your ad.

What would make you want to help someone out?

Show off your talents.  Tell your story without whining.  Include photos of your athletic events, your artwork, samples of your writing.  Link to a website that you've built yourself -- and brag about it.  Tell your plans for the future.  Sell yourself as you would if you were applying for any scholarship.   Be creative!

Your best bet for donations from sponsors may be from those who already know you.  So, let them know about your ad.  Create a really attractive ad, and then let people know about it.  

After you have created your ad, you will be able to copy the link from your browser, and paste it onto an email or website.

Get a group of your fellow students together, and publish or post your list of students.

For example, if you belong to a church group, let your congregation know about your ads.  Publish your group's list of students who need help, in your church newsletter.  Let potential sponsors know that they can search for you all by name on this site.

Other places to post or publish your student group might include: local newspaper, school newsletter, club, community center, senior center, or their websites.

Should you decide you would like a website, you may be able to earn some money by adding advertising to it.  

There are many sites on the internet with free information about how to make money with your website.  One of the ways to make money, is by adding advertising or affiliate programs to the site.  

I prefer subtle advertising and REALLY hate pop-ups, so I limit advertising on this site.  In my research, I found Google Ads to be the least obtrusive.  If I start making any money, I'll let you know, as I'm new at this!

For now, simply go to your favorite search engine, and type in "online advertising" or "affiliate programs" and you'll get thousands of hits.   To find out about Google's advertising program, go to Google.com and then click on Business Solutions.  Here's the link.

My favorite freebie site right now is out of the UK: Free Stuff Junction.  It has free hosted ad-free scripts for websites, which are difficult to find.  Most free scripts contain advertising, which you have no control over.

The "send this page to a friend" link on all of the pages of this site is from Free Stuff Junction.  There are all kinds of great other freebies on the site, including a great section on stuff for students.  I emailed a question regarding the "send this page to a friend" and received a very friendly response a couple of days later.  Also unusual for a freebie site.

You can sell stuff on Ebay, Yahoo, Amazon, etc., and put a link to your sales, auctions, etc., in your student ad.  

You are not allowed to use the ad space itself to sell things, but you are allowed to include links to commercial ventures.  This may be the easiest way to make some money without having to pay for any hosting.  

Ebay even allows you to create a baby website on the Ebay site, which uses their online program.  For an example, here's my Ebay link.  I rarely sell anything since I started law school.  When I sell anything now, it's my used textbooks, and I use Amazon for that.

If you click on the little "me" next to my feedback rating, you can see the little web page that Ebay allows.  Mine is out of date and really bare-bones, but you can get much more creative.  I believe you can even upload images and photographs.

If you sell things on Ebay, Yahoo, Amazon, etc., you can be receiving bids and orders at any time of the day or night.  You simply log onto these sites, or check your email, to find out how sales are going.  It may be a nice way for your to make some extra money.  In fact, some people make a very nice living doing this, such as Ebay's Power Sellers.

I used to sell used books, but as my studies increased, my available time decreased.  I found there to be enormous competition at book sales after awhile, as selling online became so popular.  It became easier to just get a job working for someone else.  But, perhaps you can find a niche or can share the shopping, packaging and shipping with someone else.  It is nice to be your own boss.
